Personality- Fern has an independent spirit; she never wanted to follow the rules of her small household (brother, mother, father). She loved to talk to the animals as she flew through the forest near her home. If anyone stood in her way she would become stubborn and not budge, unless that person was her superior with a bad reputation for being mean.

History- Fern was born into a relatively poor family of Faela. Her mother (dead) was a normal, bustling housewife, the best a man could want, and her father took care of the chores until Fern was old enough; then she took over with the easiest jobs: collecting brush for fire, singing songs to the wild animals so they wouldn’t disturb her or her family. She would help her mother with dinner, and when her brother was born ten years after her she took him wherever she went. He was like a loyal puppy following his master: she taught him to hunt with a sling, sing to the forest, and scare away the monsters in their shared room and how to swim in the big lake with the aid of their wings. When the war started, her father was called to action and into battle; even though he was a lighthearted Lightstepp, the ‘invincible’ (he always said to his son), he was killed only a few weeks after being drafted. Her mother was stricken with grief and died, leaving their two children to fend for themselves: Fern at age 24 and Frigid at 14. At first they could run the house themselves, but soon they got out of rhythm and had to abandon the 2-bedroom and main dining room house they had known for their whole (short) lives. It became overrun by animals and weeds.
The two of them wandered through the forest, fishing and hunting only enough to stay alive because they didn’t like taking away life. They would stay at a shelter for a week at a time, and then move on. This pattern continued for three years, until they found an old Saeleyn named Felix Croost. He took them in and that is where they are living now, under the burden of taking care of the major chores of the hut. Felix died, and Fern took up the house and ran it. This time it was more of a success because they had experience running a house from Felix.

Weapon(s)- A slingshot and longbow

Appearance- When she was little, her parents kept her hair long but Fern found that it was really annoying and got in her face. So when fleeing their house, she chopped off her deep brown hair to her ears. She never really bothered to take care of it besides the odd cutting, so it is very wild. Her blue eyes pierce those who dare to look into them; they are intelligent and bold. Her wings are long and silvery and have a wingspan of six feet; the tips are three feet above her head. They shimmer blue at night. Fern never bothers to wear nice clothes –woven leaves and grasses that match her hair. A bow and some quivers rest in a pouch on her back, and a slingshot is tucked into her belt.
